Scholarships and Exchanges

The Fulbright Program, a U.S. Government-sponsored program that operates on a bi-national basis with other countries, funds non-U.S. citizens for study and research in the United States and U.S. citizens for study and research abroad. As embassy operations are currently suspended in Libya, we are not accepting applications at this time from Libyan nationals for the Fulbright program. Please monitor for updates. As political conditions improve in Libya, guidance will be provided regarding future Fulbright recruitment and consideration of any applications already submitted.

The Department of State Educational and Cultural Exchange Programs

Every year, the Embassy of the United States offers Libyans the opportunity to engage in first-hand cultural exchange with their American peers through its diverse educational and cultural exchange programs.

The U.S. Embassy in Tripoli strives to foster mutual understanding between the people of the United States and Libya. This mission, implemented by U.S. embassies around the world, is overseen within the Department of State by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).

Educational and cultural exchange programs are offered both to students and professionals. They range from short visit programs not exceeding one week to long-term postgraduate studies. These programs allow for the empowerment of youth, women, and civil society. They promote leadership development, educational transformation, and democratic ideals.
