POSITION: Protocol Supervisor, FSN-09

WORK HOURS: Full-time; 40 hours/week
The United States Embassy in Tripoli is seeking individuals for the full time (40 hours/week) position of Protocol Supervisor.
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
Serve as primary liaison between the U.S. Embassy and the Government of Libya for all diplomatic correspondence and administrative processing regarding: visas and residency permits for embassy staff and visitors; travel notification; customs and shipping; vehicle registration and driver’s licenses; and substantive policy initiatives. Supervise the Protocol Clerk. Assist the Ambassador and DCM with a variety of Protocol-related matters such as setting appointments, preparing guests lists, and providing visiting delegations with guidance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: University degree is required.
Three years in a responsible position in an administrative field is required.
One year working with the Libyan Government, or two years administrative experience with the U.S. Embassy is required.
Level IV (fluent) speaking, reading and writing in English and Arabic is required.
Must have superb knowledge of the Libyan governmental structure and bureaucracy; how to get things done within the bureaucracy, and where to go to find out information.
Must have superb understanding of Libyan culture, etiquette and social mores, and how they fit into the political and governmental structure.
Must be able to write diplomatic notes and other reports or correspondence concisely and appropriately in English and Arabic.
Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational and managerial skills, and must be able to appropriately supervise one staff member.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Outlook database are required.
Ability to work independently also is required.
SELECTION PROCESS:
When equally qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (EFMs) and U.S. Veterans will be given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate address the required qualifications above in the application.

- Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
- Current employees are not eligible to apply for advertised positions within the first year of their employment.
