POSITION:  Protocol Clerk, FSN-05
OPENING DATE: November 4, 2009
CLOSING DATE: November 17, 2009
WORK HOURS: Full-time; 40 hours/week

The United States Embassy in Tripoli is seeking individuals for the full time (40 hours/week) position of Protocol Clerk. 

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
This position reports to the Protocol Supervisor.  Responsible for the exchange and follow-up of diplomatic correspondence and administrative processing regarding:  visas and residency permits for embassy staff and visitors; travel notification; customs and shipping; vehicle registration and driver’s licenses; and substantive policy initiatives.  


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Two years of progressively responsible office experience is required.
  • Level III (Good Working Knowledge) Reading, Writing and Speaking English is required. 
  • Level IV (Fluency) Reading, Writing and Speaking Arabic is required.
  • Must have general knowledge of the Libyan government structure and social mores. 
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required.  Must be able to organize work efficiently. 
  •  Must be polite and customer service-oriented in all dealings with the public and with co-workers.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.

 

SELECTION PROCESS:

When equally qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (EFMs) and U.S. Veterans will be given preference.  Therefore, it is essential that the candidate address the required qualifications above in the application.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current employees are not eligible to apply for advertised positions within the first year of their employment.
