Fulbright Foreign Student Program

The Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship and The International Fulbright Science and Technology Award


 

The United States Embassy is pleased to announce the competition of the Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship to pursue two years of post-graduate study and the International Fulbright Science and Technology Award to pursue a Ph.D. in science, technology, and engineering in the USA beginning in the 2010-2011 academic year.  The deadline for submitting applications for both awards is May 5, 2009. Scholarships will be awarded for programs beginning in the United States in August/September 2010.  Access the online application for either the Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship or the IFST at https://apply.embark.com/student/fulbright


·         Fill out the application online. Follow the steps provided and follow the application instructions carefully.
·         Review your online application carefully before clicking the submit button.
·         Fill out all supplemental forms required in the application.
·         Submit all supporting documentation needed to complete your application. Your application is not considered complete until the U.S. Embassy receives all your supporting documentation. These documents are:
1.     Three letters of recommendation.
2.     Undergraduate transcript in English and Arabic.
3.     Undergraduate diploma/certificate in English and Arabic.
4.     Two passport size photos.
5.     Copy of passport bio pages (English and Arabic).
6.     Resume / C.V.
7.     TOEFL and GRE scores or dates of enrollment in the tests.

Additional Requirements for Ph.D. candidates:
·         Prospective applicants for Ph.D. programs in the U.S. must additionally provide the names and points of contact for 3 U.S. professors who have written to express willingness to serve as the student’s dissertation mentor. 
·         Ph.D. applicants must also provide a one-page dissertation proposal for their prospective program.

TOEFL Testing:
You will need to submit a TOEFL test score with your application. A certified score of 550 or higher obtained within one year may be submitted with the application.
You must indicate the following institutional code (5027) on the registration forms and on the answer sheets provided at the time you take the examinations.

Fields of Study:
The Fulbright Program promotes the exchange of ideas, cultures, and the development of leaders who can contribute to building Libyan institutions and services. The study of humanities and social sciences supports this goal and includes such fields as: anthropology, arts, archaeology/cultural preservation/museum studies, business administration, drama, economics, education, English as a foreign language, environmental studies, international relations, journalism, law, philosophy, political science, psychology, public administration, public health, religious studies, sociology, U.S. history/literature. Consideration will also be given to study of water management, solar energy, information technology, and agriculture.  The Fulbright-Libya Program does not support the study of medicine, but applications for the study of public health administration will be considered.
