How To File a Petition
At this time the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli does not process immigrant visas. Libya remains part of the consular district of the U.S. Embassy in Tunis for most visa matters.
All lawful permanent residents and American Citizens resident in the United States or with a permanent address in the United States must file I-130 petitions at the USCIS Service Center having jurisdiction over their place of residence as indicated on the USCIS website.
The Consular Section at U.S. Embassy Tunis can now accept I-130 petitions for immediate relative immigrant classification from American citizens who have been continuously resident in Libya for at least six months. An American citizen filing a petition for a family member will need:
- A completed Form I-130 Petition for Alien Relative.
- A completed Form G-325 Biographic Information for the petitioner.
- A completed Form G-325 Biographic Information for the relative.
- Proof of petitioner’s U.S. citizenship (a passport valid for at least five years at time of issuance, a naturalization certificate, or birth certificate).
- Proof of citizenship and identity of the family member.
- Your family member’s birth certificate.
- One (50mm x 50mm) photograph of the petitioner and one of the family member.
- The petition-filing fee of US$190, payable in cash. (US$ or TND equivalent.)
The family member must accompany the petitioner to complete additional forms at the time the petition is filed at the US Embassy in Tunis.
No appointment is required to file a petition at the U.S. Embassy in Tunis. Petitioners may visit the American Citizens Services window between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday (except U.S. and Tunisian holidays).
All documents must be originals or certified copies.
All documents must be officially translated into English.
